Here Lately

Game updates, agent hacks, and other thoughts.

Hello everyone, hope you had a safe and happy New Year.

I’ve been working on updates to the game. The store has the latest version, 1.5, as of the time of writing. I should release 1.6 within a few days. I’m currently focused on smoothing out all the rough edges and making it beatable. With version 1.5, I surfaced Chronicle stats. Chronicle is an in-engine way I track various statistics about the run and other things, such as runs attempted, gold accumulation, monsters killed, etc. Seeing those numbers made me realize just how brutal it is...

The surface-level town and economy are my current focus. I have been reading a lot of other RPG systems aside from TSR/Wizards’ based ones to draw inspiration from. Roguelike Moria and early Wizardry I also see as templates, a town over a dungeon. Waterdeep, but not nearly at that scale, or theme. I’m going for a darker tone.

I attended another agent hack, although I didn’t compete this time. I mainly went to see the vendors; there were some interesting presentations.

I’ve been working on my agent framework and plan to push an update to GitHub for it soon. I will probably start a new repo for this version and leave the current one. I’ve tuned Tom to be a coder. If you want a generic starting point, the current version is better.
